MAXHAUST ACTIVE SOUND SYSTEM - FAQ

What is an Active Sound System and how does Maxhaust work?

The Maxhaust Active Sound System is an electronic sound module that generates realistic engine sound as well as specially developed EV sounds. The sound is calculated in real time rather than simply played back. The system uses vehicle data such as RPM and throttle position to create dynamic sound behavior. It is controlled via the app or the vehicle's original buttons.

How realistic does an Active Sound System sound?

The sound is calculated dynamically instead of simply being played back. This means there are no sound loops or monotonous noises. In addition, the system uses real vehicle recordings as the basis for sound development. The sound changes depending on RPM and load, which makes it feel especially realistic.

How loud is an Active Sound System?

An Active Sound System produces a clearly audible engine sound outside the vehicle. Depending on the sound profile and installation position, the sounds can reach up to around 120 dB. The volume can be adjusted individually via the app.

Is an Active Sound System legal in Germany?

There is currently no type approval for Active Sound Systems. As a result, registration with the TÜV is not possible. These systems are intended for motorsport, show purposes, or export. The system should be deactivated on public roads.

Can an Active Sound System also be installed in electric vehicles?

Yes. The Maxhaust Active Sound System can be installed in combustion-engine vehicles as well as electric and hybrid vehicles. Specially developed EV sounds are available for electric vehicles, creating a dynamic and realistic driving sound.

Why choose Maxhaust instead of a conventional sound booster?

Maxhaust is developed and manufactured in Germany and offers the most extensive feature set among active sound systems. Features such as backfire, downshifts, upshifts, blow-offs, start and stop sounds, and cold start create a highly realistic sound profile.

More than 30 sounds are available for combustion-engine, electric, and hybrid vehicles. New sounds can be added via over-the-air app downloads.

Is the Maxhaust Bridge required?

Yes. The Maxhaust Bridge is the system's central control unit. It processes vehicle data and enables control via the app as well as the vehicle's original buttons. The Bridge also allows additional tuning upgrades to be added plug and play.

My vehicle is not listed in the configurator. What now?

No problem. Through remote support, we can read out the vehicle data together with the customer and provide the correct software directly. This means there is no waiting time for initial use.

Can the system also be turned off?

Yes. The Active Sound System can be deactivated at any time. It can be controlled conveniently via the app, the vehicle's original buttons, or an optional external button.

Does the vehicle need to be coded after installation, and can it cause any issues in the vehicle?

No. Coding is not required. The system is ready for operation immediately after installation. The Maxhaust system works in read-only mode and only reads vehicle data. No data is written to the CAN bus and there is no intervention in control units. Our system has passed all relevant tests, including EMC and E13.

Will the system be visible after installation, and where are the DEEP and HIGH speakers mounted?

The DEEP Speaker can be mounted either in the spare wheel well or underneath the vehicle, depending on the vehicle. The HIGH Speaker is mounted to the vehicle underbody. The speakers are not connected to the exhaust system. Depending on the installation position, the system is barely visible from the outside.

Can the system be controlled using vehicle buttons or an additional button?

Yes. 99.9% of vehicles can be controlled using the vehicle's original buttons, for example through drive profiles such as Drive Select or similar driving modes. This means additional switches in the interior are usually not necessary. Optionally, an external button can be connected to the Maxhaust Bridge.

Can I install the Active Sound System myself?

Installation is generally possible for people with mechanical experience. However, depending on the vehicle, mechanical modifications may be required. For the best possible result, we recommend installation by a professional workshop. Our support team is also available by phone during installation if needed.

What happens when returning a leased vehicle?

The system can be completely removed again. If installed in the interior, openings are sealed with matching rubber grommets. In rare cases, replacing individual trim parts may be necessary.
